Country Club of Birmingham offers two private, 18-hole courses, the West Course and the East Course. The West Course is considered the more demanding of the two, but they both offer a challenging game of golf. Both courses have undergone major renovations in the years since they opened. In 1958 Robert Trent Jones, Sr. redesigned the course and in 1986, Pete Dye designed a few changes. The hilly terrain of the course features several ponds that create tricky water hazards. The subtly undulating greens are large and well-bunkered. Golf Digest ranked the course the eigth "Best in State" for 1995-1996 and it was 9th in 1997-1998.
