The private, 18-hole golf course at Altadena Valley Country Club opened for play in 1940 but it underwent major renovations during the summer of 1999. The renovations included brand new greens of Bermuda Grass and a major landscaping project. The course borders the Cahaba River and covers nearly 120 acres of land. Its fairways are tree-lined and narrow. The new greens are relatively small in size and well-bunkered. Trees are scattered throughout Altadena Valley Country Club providing some challenge as well as some shade and scenery. There are also a few ponds that create water hazards that come into play on a few holes.
